introduction forward.

This is largely just meant as a repository for my attempt to cooperate with 52 Books in 52 Weeks, which is a collective project for people to read and write about what they're reading. The name "The Kraken Naps" is taken from the book The Kraken Wakes by writer John Wyndham which was about alien invasion from the seas.

I'm trying to finish it now so I can start fresh in 2009 with a fresh book. I was thinking of going in guns blazing with a book I've owned for nearly a year but haven't yet found time to read, that of Tristam Shandy by Laurence Stern.

But I will most likely change my mind a half dozen times in the next two days.

the kraken

Below the thunders of the upper deep;
Far far beneath in the abysmal sea,
His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep
The Kraken sleepeth: faintest sunlights flee
About his shadowy sides; above him swell
Huge sponges of millennial growth and height;
And far away into the sickly light,
From many a wondrous grot and secret cell
Unnumber'd and enormous polypi
Winnow with giant arms the slumbering green.
There hath he lain for ages, and will lie
Battening upon huge seaworms in his sleep,
Until the latter fire shall heat the deep;
Then once by man and angels to be seen,
In roaring he shall rise and on the surface die.
